The
Brenton Arboretum Pavilion
The Pavilion Grows a Green Roof
The roof of the pavilion was designed to hold 5 inches of soil,
a drainage system and thousands of plants; sedums, wildflowers and
grasses. Referred to as a green roof, this new type of roof system
reduces urban pollution and provides thermal insulation. The Brenton
Arboretum Pavilion, with its curved shape and smaller size, allows
visitors a good look at a green roof and the hardy plants up on top.
Open to the Public
The new pavilion provides a place for visitors to meet with friends
and family, have a picnic, watch birds or wait out a passing rain
shower. The pavilion is open to visitors unless reserved for private
or Arboretum events.
Reserving the Pavilion
You may reserve the pavilion for family gatherings, picnics and
other private events. You must be a member of the Brenton Arboretum
to reserve the Pavilion and visitors are invited to become members
at any time.
Eight large cedar tables with 16 benches are provided. Full sized
screens can be rolled down to protect events from wind or rain. The
pavilion can be rented for a half or a whole day. Please contact
the Arboretum office for rental fees and other information.
Please follow these guidelines when using the Pavilion:
- Please leave the pavilion as you found it; clean and organized.
- Please take your trash with you, no trash cans are provided.
- No nails, staples or tape on tables, fixtures or fireplace.
- The fireplace is for special events only. No other fires or portable
grills are allowed.

Plan for Green Roof Construction
Plants on the Pavilion Roof
Believing in the restorative and therapeutic
benefits of planting wildflowers and grasses anywhere, the roof of the
pavilion was designed to hold 5 inches of soil, a drainage system and
thousands of plants. Referred to as a green roof, this new type of roof
system is recognized as an answer to a number of urban pollution problems.
These green roofs reduce urban heat islands and storm water runoff. They
also reduce energy use by insulating buildings from extreme temperatures.
