Contact Kay Meyer, Education Director: (515)992-4211 or by email; kay@thebrentonarboretum.org to schedule a time for your students to visit the Brenton Arboretum.
Designed for Pre-K to 2nd graders, our activities support basic science concepts and emphasize the enjoyment of spending time outdoors in nature.
After dividing into small groups, our Arboretum
instructors lead children to outdoor treasures like wildflowers, bird nests or animal tracks. Divided into small groups of 10 to 12 students, everyone can make a discovery of their own.
Each small group activity lasts about 40 minutes and an average school group participates in 3 or 4 actvities. Field trips are usually 3 hours in length depending on the number of activities and number of students.
Most school groups schedule time for a picnic lunch at our green roofed pavilion.
Nine of the 15 Knee High Naturalist program activities are available in the Program Guide below. Teachers are encouraged to request activities that match classroom studies.
